What I wore: Polka dots!

Hi Friends and Happy Valentines Day!!

Today I bring you one of my favorite thrift finds! This amazing polka dotted dress. I'm so glad It fit so well when I tried it on. It's so awesome! Also.. prepare for 3985539 different faces. I did not know how expressive I was with my face until I started taking pictures of myself. Oh man, I am all over the place. haha.

I could wear this dress everyday for a lifetime and still not be bored or uncomfortable. What's the best match for a dress you say? Well a cardigan of course! I've been wearing cardigan's since the dawn of time, ok, well not THAT long, but since I can remember.
Plus, this purple color looks really good with the dress. Yesssss.

This necklace is cool..right? right! I got it in a little shop in Naw  Oleans around a year ago. That place is so rad and I cannot wait to go back. Also, I promise you I ironed this dress not too sure why it was so wrinkled already. Grr.

I know I haven't worn lipstick in my other two posts but I wear it almost everyday. It's my wardrobe staple. For sure.

What completes this outfit?! Well wingtip vans. You have to keep it classy! My faves.
Now I leave you with three of the faces I captured. This is only a fraction, I won't torture you too much.

Cook with me--Low Carb Nachos

Hi gals!
So last night Bob and I cooked these delicious low-carb nachos that I wanted to share with you. They were so delicious and filling.
I haven't talked about my weight loss journey on here yet but I started it last year.
To me it's not a diet but rather a lifestyle I want to adhere to for the rest of my life. I of course slip up everyone once in a while and need a break. The last couple of months I stopped eating low-carb and gained 8 pounds back, of the original 32 lost.
It's not for everyone but for me it works and I have read a lot about low carb\ high fat and feel it is healthy and something I want to do.
Pheewww.. now that I got that over with, on to the recipe! I cook a lot. Everyday actually (well except for weekends, most of the time) and I've never tried this before but it came out delish!

First I browned the meat. I used I think bottom round sirloin? Don't quote me on that. You can also use some type of ground beef you feel comfortable eating. I wanted bigger chunks of meat on mine.
These are the seasonings I used on the meat. Julio's is just a season-all pretty much that Bob and I like to use on all types of meat. If I didn't have that I probably would've just used salt, pepper, crushed red peppers, and the garlic powder.
So if you ever came to eat at this household you would KNOW we eat tons of bacon. It's delicious how could you not?! The recipe for the refried beans actually called for it though, yay! While I browned the meat and fried the tortillas Bob made the beans. Team work!
So, actual refried beans are not very low-carb and these black soy beans are. They didn't have quite the same texture but the taste was pretty darn close. I'll take it! We used this recipe for the beans. We cut it in half though because I had only bought one can of beans but that was more than enough.
At this point I was telling Bob that I hoped they tasted better than they looked because that's not very appetizing. They did, so no worries!
This is after all the ingredients were compiled together. Let's review: browned bacon, mashed beans, butter( If I was making it I would've omitted this but he makes the recipe to a T), garlic salt, pepper, and 2 TBS of heavy cream(sorry forgot to take a picture of that). You can get the specific amounts at the recipe link above.
While Bob was making the beans I started to fry the tortillas. I would also like to mention this is not how we eat everyday. It was a treat because we were both really craving nachos. This dish had absolutely no greens and we always have veggies with dinner.
Anyway, we used the whole pack of tortillas above to make the dish.
I cut them into fours.
Then, fried them in a small pan with olive oil.
The finished result of the frying. I also would like to point out the ones above are the regular tortillas not the low-carb (for the kiddos). They're super impatient and I have to make everything sooner for them.
We assembled the chips, the beans, and topped it with cheese( used shredded cheddar to our liking) and stuck it under the broiler for literally a minute.
This is after we took it out of the oven and topped it with the beef. You see how a minute was more than enough? The outer tips were already getting burnt. Bob likes it pretty crispy though, so it worked out.

The finished edition that was my plate. I put sour cream in the middle because duh, who eats nachos with no sour cream?

This dish couldn't have turned out any better for a first try. We're for sure going to make this one again. If you don't eat low-carb you can always just substitute out the tortillas and the beans for regular ones but the over all recipe will still be the same.
It's super easy and pretty quick to make. I say give it a whirl!

Random Me

So, yesterday morning Ms. Alyssa over at Butterflies on Mars nominated me for this awesome little award here. Thanks a ton lady. Also, if you haven't gone to check out her site what are you waiting for? She has a really cool style and amazing personality.

Instructions are to:
  • Nominate some other new bloggers
  • Let them know you have nominated them
  • Share 7 random facts about yourself
  • Thank the blogger who has nominated you
  • Add the Versatile Blogger Award to your post

The bloggers I nominate are:

FACTS:

  • I love the color purple. It's pretty much the most amazing color in the rainbow and if I could wear purple everyday I probably would. I mean I guess I could.. but then you would think I was loony. It's been my unwavering fave since the age of 5. I remember it being my favorite that long ago. Weird.
  • I was born in Paraguay and my whole extended family still lives there. Many of you will probably have to bust out an atlas, I hope some of you still own one, to find it. It's in the middle of South America, saved ya the trouble. I'll do a whole blog post about it at some point. The culture is still a very big part of me and my life. I visited every summer until Pia was born. Darn children.. haha.
  • This is a random one for sure, I have really bad depth perception. No, truly horrible. I can never tell, in a car, how far away I am from another car and it often takes me wayyy too long to back out of a spot. Also this affects every other part of my life, the car one is just the most annoying!
  • At the ages of 15-18 I wore only Disney t-shirts with everything. That was really my wardrobe. I still have some that my kids are now fitting into or my little brother has used. They were in all different colors and characters, I didn't discriminate.
  • I am a chocolate FIEND. It's pretty obnoxious how much I love chocolate. I have to have a piece of chocolate at least once a day. I crave it like a drug. Well that was weird to write but oh, so very true.
  • I cannot keep a plant alive to save my life. Even cacti come to die at my house. You didn't think that was possible? Come over and I'll show you. I think it's because I just forget to water them.. but sometimes it's also because I overdo it. Hopefully someday soon I'll get to grow some beautiful plant and feel accomplished!
  • I love vinyl. I've been obsessed with the 40s-50s since I can remember. I have a small record collection that keeps on growing. The ones I have are from both new and old artists alike. I enjoy lounging on my bed and listening to some tunage to relax.

There ya go! Hope you enjoyed those.
Picking seven was pretty tough at first but then as I got inspired I couldn't stop.
I'll have to make some about me posts soon. :)

With all my love,

Historical Thursday: Muhammad Ali Mosque (Cairo)

Hello Gals!
So I've been featuring some local favorites of mine for Historical Thursday and today I wanted to show you guys an amazing place my family and I went to this summer.
These pictures aren't amazing because unfortunately I didn't yet have the lovely camera I have now.
Either way I hope you enjoy them.

It was a Mosque!!! I'm really crazy about Mosques, especially really old ones like this one that we visited in Cairo. It's called the Muhammad Ali Mosque and it is inside of the Cairo Citadel.
The Citadel is a medieval Cairo fortification on a hill near the center of Cairo.
The whole fortification was built around the 1100s and the mosque was built between 1830 and 1848.

The Mosque itself is made out of limestone but it also contains an alabaster courtyard and the inside courtyard is filled with alabaster columns.
It's so breathtaking I could've spent all day walking around and it wouldn't have been enough time.

The Mosque has many of these painted motifs inside of the mosque and also alongside the courtyard.
It was built with one large dome surrounded by four small and four semi-circular dome. The architecture of the overall Mosque also included two minarets, which is a tall spire that tapers off into a cylinder or cone shape. Basically a ornate type of tower structure. They use it for call to prayer.

 Outside wall ornate metal decorations.

Not too sure what this was but Arabic is such a beautifully written language.

Tomb of Muhammad Ali Pasha who had this built in memory of his son. It is made out of Carrara marble and it is centrally located in the courtyard. The carvings on these were breathtaking!

My sister and I standing next to the tomb. We had to wear those robes because we were wearing clothing that didn't cover our knees and upper arms. When we walked into the Mosque itself we had to take our shoes off as well.

Covered hallways contained these intricate motifs that were painted and decorated.

Those last three pictures were from the actual inside of the Mosque. They all have those lamps in the middle of the praying are which I find to be mesmerizing.
Not too sure why I didn't take pictures of the ceilings inside, might have had to do with no flash, either way they were so ornate and beautiful.

I don't like to use images that aren't mine really but I had to find this one for you guys. It was stunning to say the least. I also completely forgot to mention that it is still indeed a working Mosque and people come to prayer here.

Bonus picture of us overlooking Cairo. All the stuff that looks like fog is actually smog. This was a particularly bad day and we couldn't really see too much of the city. Bummer.

This is one of many locations that I hope to lead you guys through. Hope you enjoyed it!

What I wore: T-shirt, Floral skirt, Jean shirt

Helllooo!!!
Another Wednesday.. another outfit post and I'm still not getting any better at it. I just laugh because that's better than wanting to break the camera, right? It's blurry but I enjoy it actually. Go figure!
Anyway, this is a Pati outfit at it's best. I love paring girly things with "punky" things.

I thrifted this jean shirt a while ago and had no clue what to do with it. Then I started to put it on top of cutesy outfits or dresses. I really dig how it looks here, actually.
Oh man, those roots. I promise guys.. soon!

I love skulls and anything skull-like. I incorporate them into my wardrobe a lot. This is actually one of the boys old metal shirts that he no longer fits into. It's mine now, thanks babe! I'm also obsessed with this little tea kettle necklace I got from a really good friend for Christmas. I've been wearing it with tons of outfits.

I thought these boots deserved their own picture and explanation. I'm head over heels for these. I exchanged some HIDEOUS ones my mom got me for Christmas, they were some sort of Ugg ones, really mom.. Ugg? Most of you don't know me. Do I look anything like an Ugg wearing gal? NO??! Ok, awesome. Sometimes I really have no clue what parents are thinking.
I wore these for two weeks straight when I first got them.
I love them and they're so darn comfy!

Ending it with a classic Pati face. Hope you enjoyed my little outfit. I sure felt comfortable and fashionable that day!

Jean Shirt: Thrifted
T-Shirt: Boy's old one
Skirt: Fossil (Forever ago)
Tights: Target
Boots: Steve Madden

Clean as a whistle

Hi gals!
So the picture above describes exactly what I was doing yesterday. This house was a crazy mess and it was time to get it sparkling again.
I really feel like I'm in some sort of zoo sometimes with all the animals and people living here.
I know this post isn't the lively-est (It's a new word) ever but sometimes you just need those posts that show I'm a real living person sometimes. Mommy life gets tough sometimes.
I'm just glad yesterday I got so much stuff done.

I was also wondering if anyone uses natural products for their house? I'm so lazy and I just buy store bottled stuff but I know I need to get into the habit of making my own.
All these toxins present everywhere really do scare me.
I've tried using vinegar before for things but it's so strong smelling that to me it's a bit off putting.
Maybe something you mix it with?

Anyway that's all for today. Just short and sweet.
I'll be back tomorrow with an outfit post.

With all my love,

Pati
